Mindset or Skill Set Challenge in Network Marketing

Can We Motivate a Downline to Do What We Want?

When we are challenged in Network Marketing, it’s easy to think there is something more we need to learn. But is it? Is it a mindset issue or a skill set issue?

  

I recently had a business breakthrough consultation call with a network marketing professional. She has a decent level of success and her challenge is that she spends the last week of every month scrambling to get her “leaders” qualified.

 

This means she is finding customers and team partners and placing or stacking them in under those “leaders.” This is how she makes sure she is qualified for her check and the bonuses associated.

 

That doesn’t sound very fun, rewarding or like a win win for anyone involved, really.

 

And, I know a lot of people get caught in this trap in their company due to the payplan and structure.

 

Does it have to be this way?

 

She wanted to know how she could train and motivate them to do this themselves.

 

My immediate thought was why? Why would they ever want to do this for themselves if they just sit back and she earns their check for them each month. Would you? They are clearly not interested or motivated at this point to do more in the business to earn beyond the check that she makes sure they get each month.

 

Talk about the ultimate welfare system.

 

Now, the interesting thing is this - she is totally convinced that this is purely about teaching them business skills, and changing their mindset. That something she can say or do will make the shift.

 

The one who needs a shift in mindset is HER.

 

When I suggested this, she balked. As a life coach herself, she told me she did not need any mindset coaching. She needed to know what to do to get them to change.

 

I asked her if she believed there are other people out there like her; motivated to do what it takes and who are not looking for someone to build it for them.

 

Yes, she does think so. So, why does she not have more people like that on her team?

 

Now, I don’t have all of the answers, but in my opinion, the thing to do is to begin to work on herself, and figure out what it is she is doing…why she projects an energy that attracts people who are not motivated and don’t see the big picture.

 

When I am struggling in my business, I always know that the answer lies inside of me. It is not external.

 

It’s my thoughts and actions that are creating the results I have.

 

As a network marketing professional first, I know that my business totally shifted when I hired a coach. And, as a network marketing coach, I know there are plenty of other network marketing professionals who are serious about the success they say they want and are willing to invest in their knowledge, skills and min themselves in both time and money.

 

That’s the energy and certainty that I focus on living every day and putting out into the world every day.

 

It’s always within us.

 

So, if you are struggling with who to talk to; what to say; when to say it; how to post on social media…

 

If you think that people are different where you live; and not interested in network marketing; or no one can afford it; or no one is buying and everyone is saving their money…

 

Then, it’s a mindset shift that you need.

 

Nothing has gone wrong.

 

It’s just your thinking. Your thinking is keeping you stuck.

 

If you’ve said yes to network marketing then there are others in your area and in your circle of influence who will say yes, too, and who have the money.

 

You just have to adapt your energy to that of confidence and certainty, which is what I covered in last week’s show. Go back and listen. I’ll link it in the show notes.

 

Anytime we think that the solution to a problem like this lies outside of us, we stay stuck. And, over time, this leads too many people to quit a wonderful business and profession  that can offer them so much.

 

Don’t let that be you.

 

You don’t need another script; another secret; another funnel; or a new set of friends or people to talk to.

 

You simply need to change the way you think about the problem.

 

Our thoughts are what determine our actions. Always. When we think we are stuck, we stay out of action. We lay on the couch and binge watch Netflix instead of taking forward action in our business.

 

Change your thoughts, change your results. Simple as that.
