Times That Will Make or Break Your Business

We all have those reality checks and defining moments that show up in life and create real change, if we allow them.

I’m sharing one of mine in today’s show. Listen in to how I faced a difficult choice, dug deep within my soul and got gritty to make things happen.

There are times when something unexpected shows up in life. When it happens, it’s Almost like the world stands still; a loud buzz runs through your head; and maybe even causes the room to begin to spin a little? WE feel out of sorts, out of control. 

I remember the biggest one that changed everything in my life like it was yesterday. Some things, you just never forget.

We had just moved from Arizona to California, more than doubling every expense we had; and in somer cases quadrupling it.

About 4 months later the airline my husband flew for announced 25% pay cuts. The year was 2003. We had survived the turbulence following the 9/11 attacks that left the airline industry in shambles.

We sat on the deck of our new, beautiful, dream home, nestled in the mountains, and stared at each other, In shock, disbelief, and plenty of uncertainty. 

“We have 3 choices, the way I see it,” said my husband, slowly. “I’m flying as many hours as I am legally allowed.

Option 1 - We can sell the house and downsize.

Option 2 - you can get a job with a guaranteed income.

Option 3 - You can push harder in your business to make more money.


He was VERY nice about it. And, he was speaking the truth. 

There was only one option that either of us even wanted to consider, and that was push harder in my business. 

We LOVED our home; AND, we both wanted me home with our young children.

I love my business. So, that wasn't a problem. 

Truth is, I had never really pushed myself. I didn’t really “need” to. There wasn’t a super strong sense of urgency. 

I wanted to push harder, though. To make it happen.

I wanted the feeling of success and accomplishment that I felt a big paycheck and top earner status would provide for me. 

And, I desperately wanted to relieve him of the stress of feeding 4 mouths, paying most of the bills and keeping us afloat amidst the very "turbulent" times. (Airline pun! )
 

I wanted to be the one to “do it!” 

Looking back, just 5 years later, I realized had everything I could possibly want. 

I had done it. 

We did not sell the house. In fact, we remodeled our kitchen; put in all new flooring; hired an artist to faux paint all of our living areas; put in a hot tub; bought a boat; joined the Yacht Club and stopped reading the menu from right to left. 

We were finally able to stop saying no to so many things because of lack of money.

So what happened? What shifted? My why became crystal clear. Keep my dream home, be there with my kids, and accomplish what I knew I was capable of.

I got serious and created the ability for us to say yes to everything we want. 

Even better than the material stuff, is the satisfaction of helping hundreds of other people create their own version of success. 

The feeling of accomplishment in helping others make more money and release the grip of fear is powerful. 

Here’s the most important thing for you to know. 

Everything I have done….

All of it…. 

Is just as possible for you, too.

There is NOTHING unique or special about me that gave me the ability to be able to do it. 

I simply did ONE thing. 

ONE thing and I never wavered from it. 

I DECIDED. 

I mean I REALLY decided.

That decision involved commitment, too, and consistency. I let go of thoughts of “someday or I’ll do it tomorrow.”

I allowed that sense of urgency to consume my thoughts.

I created my future self vision and showed up as her every day.
